A global crackdown on "pirates" - Johnny Depp implicated in spreading pro-pirate "propaganda."

While democracy now! and many others including AW@L Radio have been discussing the situation of fishermen in Somalia, who for matters of survival are defending their UN enshrined oceanic economic zones from illegal plundering of foreign fishery fleets and the disposal of European nuclear and chemical waste - the armies of colonialism and neoliberalism are simultaneously striking out to protect their immorally gained assets from those whose monetary and military might can not compare. now includes Sweden.

The torrent site ThePirateBay.org, is hosted in Sweden and is one of the most popular trackers for downloading and sharing content on the internet. Recently, a ruling of the Swedish lower court has found the website owners guilty of "assisting making available copyrighted content." The court considered arguments from america's mpaa and riaa, and may have broad ranging implications on international intellectual property law.

The court implicated, among other things, "sophisticated search functions" in its ruling. i can not help but believe that the next target for swash-buckling-prohibitionists has to be google, and here I will explain why. Through browser integration and popular use patterns, this near monopolistic internet engine is the number one provider of "sophisticated search functions" to the entire world - "terrorist agencies", and capitalist corporations use the service alike.

I constantly use google’s search capabilities to link me to torrents to download, and sometimes the torrents I end up downloading are hosted by ThePirateBay.org. It is safe to say that some of the other 22 million “pirates” who use the capabilities of ThePirateBay.org find the files in the same manner I do – that is through google’s facilitation.

Unfortunately, those with the near total spectrum dominance over information media are better prepared to spread their "truths." Powerful media and entertainment industry lobbies are now trying to pressure our governments to push through legislation that will limit internet and information sharing access and freedom.

It is only pirating and “wrong” if its done defending ones self from empirical and oppressive forces. How are pirates the bad guys here?
