Who are we?
AW@L is a community-based radical direct action group committed to solidarity and anti-oppressive organizing. We are based out of the Kitchener-Waterloo Community Centre for Social Justice (KWCCSJ) which is located at 63 Courtland Ave in Kitchener, Ontario - Grand River Watershed, Turtle Island.
AW@L is not an acronym - our meaning and understanding is of social and ecological justice.
AW@L was founded as Anti-War @ Laurier but was kicked out of the PIRG at the school after our first action - the occupation of the roof of the Colt Canada gun manufacturing plant in Kitchener (scroll to the bottom of http://peaceculture.org/drupal/newsarchives). The two universities remain important sites in the battle for social justice.
From Our Declaration:
"We are here to recognize that war and colonialism are destructive and un-ethical forces, to encourage others and raise awareness, to challenge ideas and perspectives, to confront systems of domination and oppression, to take responsibility (especially for our privilege), and to utilize our collective power to effect change."
Thank you for your support and may peace be upon you.
