To the attention of Dominic D’Alessandro CEO of Manulife,
As an employee of Manulife, I am calling on you to disclose Manulife's relations to the Security and Prosperity Partnership (SPP). The public has the right to be informed of issues of such scope and magnitude; however, documentation of the processes and ramifications of this 'partnership' have not been made available. Even more so, as an employee, and more broadly a concerned citizen, I object to the lack of transparency on this issue, especially within the company and with respect to our investors.
As part of Manulife Financial I personally object to the company being involved in the SPP and the North American Competitiveness Council (NACC). The SPP is an inherently undemocratic process which marginalizes people and actively promotes environmental destruction. As a member of the NACC, you are directly responsible for the agenda of the SPP. I call on you to cease Manulife's participation in this organization, and further within the SPP altogether.
In order to remain an accountable and professional financial organization, Manulife must first disclose all its relations and activities related to the SPP. To do otherwise is to intentionally mislead employees and investors. Manulife must sever all ties with the SPP, or else abandon any semblance of ethics and professionalism.
